Don't eat too salty!

Remember your parents telling you not to add too much salt to your food?
Ever heard the countless reminders that too much salt leads to high blood pressure and cardiovascular complications?

Well guess what...
It's not this kinda of salt that is too much for you...

Actually this is what you need to completely eliminate because you've been unknowingly over-saturated with
THIS kind of salt:
When they say "no artifical preservatives" you'll feel like you're buying something healthy...
but they use salt to preserve many packaged foods -if not ALL.

You'd be surprised! Go read what's written on the boxes now!

You can be getting as much as 20% of your recommended daily value (RDV) of salt per SERVING of ONE ingredient.

If you eat a  lot of packaged foods (even cereal, milk, chocolate....) you really shouldn't be adding table salt to your food.

Sorry darlings.

Or you know, just stop buying packaged food and do everything yourself :) It's more rewarding anyway ;)

When you go shopping...

Do you feel better using recycled/recyclable plastic bags?
...
Do you feel better using recycled/recyclable paper bags?
...
Do reusable cotton bags look nicer, feel nicer, and are easier to transport? Not to mention they are multi-use and washable?

Yes :)

Make a change.

DETOX before trying to LOSE WEIGHT

Have you been trying to lose weight by eating less and failed?

That's because your fat stores all the toxins you assimilate through dermal exposure, inhalation or indigestion. It's your body's way of PROTECTING YOU.

If you try to eat less, you are exposing your blood to all these toxins and you probably won't feel amazing.

So what you really need is..

A KICKING IMMUNITY!!

Eat or drink more vitamin C (kiwi, berries, lime and oranges) and perhaps try ALGAE (as capsules or under powdered form: spirulina and chlorella) which you can add to your food and juices.

Among many other things which provide great detox (am I forgetting?! garlic, green tea, and cactus!) algae is amazing, not only because it's so small -one ounce is as beneficial as 10kg of vegetables- but easy to pack, easy to dilute and its taste can easily be masked.

So there's really no point in trying to lose weight, before giving your body a BOOST! Sure you want to exercise as well, ad think you have enough ''fats'' to feed your muscles, but what you really need is those white blood cells wiling to fight away any evil substance.

EAT WELL
EAT GREEN
EXERCISE
SWEAT

AND SMILE! :)

Losing weight is not about thinning, it's about CLEANSING!

What makes you happy?

Today, I decided to ask my friends what makes them happy.

The simple question: "What makes you happy? :)"

Answers varied a lot, from "pasta" to "work". but what shocked me the most is that some just answers with one or two words.
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!

I expected long lists or random thoughts and memories that would've made me smile.

So is it that we take for granted all the little things that make us smile for a second, or that supposedly ''make your day" and then we forget the next morning? Does it have to occur more than once for it to be a memorable event bringing true happiness? How regular does it have to be? How chronic?

We sometimes tend to remember only the bad things -but then again what is BAD? Don't 'bad' things teach us a lot more than 'good' things? Or don't they remind us and make us appreciate the good things?
Say you're sick: You have a terrible headache and you think it can't get worse. So then the only way is up! It can only improve, or you will sleep it off.
When you experience the negative, you tend to think of the positive (as a goal, ideal, etc.). And do we not smile when we think of good things?
You could answer "yes but only when they are available". Bullshit. Think of a rainbow now and I'm sure it will make you feel good. But it's night time.

Here's a list of what makes me happy and I can promise you that's barely even half...

-Sunshine
-Waking up to a blue sky
-Waking up to rain on the window
-Rainbows, more than anything else!
-Thunder, loud loud thunder
-And lightning
-Cupcakes with lots of icing
-When someone doesn't finish the icing of their cake and gives it to me
-Saving food from being thrown away
-Working at the animal shelter
-When someone rescues an abandoned pet
-Cute texts, especially late at night or after waking up
-Doing stupid childish things with my best friends
-Laughing (duh) especially when it turns hysterical and no one else understands why
-Plants that grow on trees
-When someone quits junk food and/or smoking and/or drugs
-Giving presents
-Surprising people with presents
-Doing people favours
-Helping people when they least expect it
-Being helped when I least expect it :D
-A good workout
-Anything to do with beach and the sea
-My yummy green juice
-My yummy berry oatmeal :D
-Tabbouleh
-More food, would take forever to list
-When my dog lets me pet him for hours
-Getting over my shyness to call someone
-Finding something lost
-When new couples form (except sometimes)
-When women take off their veil!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-People who grow their own food in their garden
-Eating homegrown food
-Seeing lovey/happy graffitis
-People who smile a lot
-Free hugs
-Hugging people
-Hugging people who don't expect it
-Getting/making a cancellation whilst still in bed :)

I could go on forever and I'll keep updating that list :)

I JUST WANT YOU PEOPLE TO SMILE AND APPRECIATE EVERYTHING LIFE GIVES YOU AND GRAB ALL THE OPPORTUNITIES YOU ARE GIVEN
<3

So... what makes you happy? :D List it all!

Microwaves

I refuse to heat anything in a microwave.
I'd even rather wait 10minutes to cook popcorn in a pan.

An interesting home experiment was conducted on plants, by giving one plant microwaved water and another plant regular tap water.

Here are the results:

When heating your food, the microwave in fact destroys everything in it that's good for you.
It also kills biophotons which are light particles that allows your food to be assimilated. An extraordinary but unpopular research was made on this topic and even granted researchers a Nobel prize (read more about this HERE)
In fact:

Ten  Reasons to dispose of your Microwave  Oven

1).  Continually eating food processed from a microwave  oven causes long term - permanent - brain damage by  'shorting out' electrical impulses in the brain  [de-polarizing or de-magnetizing the brain  tissue].

2). The human body cannot metabolize  [break down] the unknown by-products created in  microwaved food.

3). Male and female hormone  production is shut down and/or altered by continually  eating microwaved foods. [Actually standing too close to your microwave will damage your ovaries or testicles, and can cause cancer]

4). The effects of  microwaved food by-products are residual [long term,  permanent] within the human body.

5). Minerals,  vitamins, and nutrients of all microwaved food is  reduced or altered so that the human body gets little  or no benefit, or the human body absorbs altered  compounds that cannot be broken down.

6). The  minerals in vegetables are altered into cancerous free  radicals when cooked in microwave ovens.

7).  Microwaved foods cause stomach and intestinal  cancerous growths [tumours]. This may explain the  rapidly increased rate of colon cancer in UK and America .

8).  The prolonged eating of microwaved foods causes  cancerous cells to increase in human blood.

9).  Continual ingestion of microwaved food causes immune  system deficiencies through lymph gland and blood  serum alterations.

10). Eating microwaved food  causes loss of memory, concentration, emotional  instability, and a decrease of  intelligence.

Apparently, a few years ago a woman put her wet cat in the microwave for it to dry... it died.
So if you ever saw a '' Do not place animals in the microwave. " now you know why!

GREEN JUICE!

About time I post about my favorite drink in the whole wide world, that I discovered thanks to my lovely neighbour :)

GREEN JUICE!

This is what it looks like on Google:

And here's what it looks like when I make it (with a juicer, and finish it all in a second):

The ingredients are:

ALWAYS                              SOMETIMES
Spinach  300g                               Carrots 2-3
Pink Lady Apples 1-2           Curly Kale 200g
Beetroot   1-2                                    Kiwi 1-2

In case you're wondering, this is Curly Kale. Not as much iron content as Spinach, but it is very high in Vitamin K, Vitamin C, beta carotene and calcium, among other things you can't pronounce.

The apples add sweetness, especially Pink Lady apples (often decorated with a heart) so it makes it a lot easier when trying to cope with the idea of swallowing liquid spinach..
All in all, it's good for weight loss, combatting depression, boosting digestion, detoxing, improving your immunity (esp. with kiwi) and ultimately fighting cancer. I started drinking it so the iron in the spinach would make my hair grow faster. BUT since it's curly, it grows in curls and I find it impossible to measure its length correctly.
Whoever you are, it's good for you (unless you're on crazy meds or have an intolerance/allergy which you SHOULD know about).

Still, don't forget to drink at least 2 L of water if you want to keep your body hydrated! Thirst is only felt when your body starts to dehydrate, so don't wait!!

That rhymed :D

Ok now, get yourself a juicer or a new favorite juice bar and drink up that greeeeen gooodness!
The fresher the better! ;)

Identity - Physique

So I don't understand why people want to change their looks so much.

Actually, no, I do.

Life is about exploring things, stretching and visiting the corners of our minds, of your imagination and our potential.

Now, check these pictures, think, take a moment, and think again before formulating your opinion.

Random dude:

Do you find these attitudes destructive, embarrassing or glorifying to human nature?

The dilemma is the following:
If we are to live with what we're given and what is natural, is our inclination to produce and apply make-up unnatural? yet the (initial) materials used are 100% natural and their abundant existence, mainly in rocks, can only invite us to use them as we desire.

How far can one go until they are deemed ''unnatural'' anyways? Does a certain chemical process determine the boundaries of what is natural?

On another note, do we dress up because we think we look better or because we think others will think we look better? And does that make us happy or does it make others happy and we thus are happy when they are?

I personally love the natural look, even to this extent:
(Our hair is kinda meant to look like that)

But what bothers me is that people try so hard to look 'good', whatever good may mean to them, and they forget that being happy and healthy on the inside will inevitably make you look great on the outside. Kohl is beautiful when properly applied, and was even used as sunshade in sunny countries, but it can do no good to a sad girl who eats hamburgers all day.

If we were all happy and healthy, like we once were, fashion and trends would be useless. But how boring is a world with no creativity and where you can't use your own body as your canvas?

Think think think and please comments! Ask questions, I'll reply :)

RAW FOODISM

Raw foodism is a diet that comprises of uncooked and unprocessed foods only.
It's gaining popularity, mainly by athletes ad people who care about their physique a lot.
Why?
Because apparently it makes your skin glow and prevents ageing.

But the MAIN reason is that it prevents carcinogenic compounds from forming and essential nutrients from being destroyed while cooking (to spare you the scientific detail).

It's also easier if you live in a place with a small or shared kitchen, or don't have time to cook!

So - what do raw foodists eat?
Fruits, vegetables, legumes, grains/nuts, dairy, meat, eggs, honey...

Something like that.
I played around with a stock image.

Although there are vegan/vegetarian variations to this diet, you can still eat raw/cured meats, including sushi! :D

I'd have to cut out breads (especially for gluten intolerance) and that sadly means cake...but raw chocolate is still an option :D

I think it's worth a try. It'll be hard but I'll get creative and hopefully see a difference!

I'm just concerned about rice because I'm so used to it, but I can't stand uncooked nuts (with the exception of almonds). And oatmeal. I'll make 2 exceptions :D

Now, don't forget the greens and the organic-ness!!

PS: I'm unsure about the cheese, I would categorise it as processed but I love mozzarella too much so...

PPS: This girl introduced me to raw foodism:
She's like 16, but looks like a doll -intentionally.
I want this pure skin!

Rainbows and 5's!

This brings me to my most important rule (I don't like rules, I break them but this is an exception):

EAT THE RAINBOW!

The following picture illustrates my point:
So yes, the rainbow comprises entirely of fruits and vegetables!

Try to eat one of each color, EVERY day - trust me on this one, it will lift up your mood and give your body all it needs :)

For example, in one day you can eat these:
Red peppers (raw in salad, steamed or stir fried)

Orange (juice or sliced, even in a salad!)

Broccoli (steamed or stir fried)

Lemon (juice)

Grapes (with oatmeal!)

Blueberries (with oatmeal! check previous post)

BUT i personally think that's not enough.
I try to stick to 5 fruits and 5 vegs every day :)
And if I don't get my 5 and 5, I do feel quite guilty =/

But 5&5 a day only means one thing: MORE GREENS!
Lettuce, spinach, zucchini, kiwi.. (I'll blog about my green juice later)

And don't forget EGGPLANT is also a pretty purple to add to your daily rainbow ;)
Let's start from the very beginning!

BREAKFAST

Alright, so.. I usually have lovely Egyptian orange juice when I'm in Cairo -gulp down a whole glass as soon as I wake up! It's so fresh, and sweet, and filled with Vitamin C!

But I moved to London. And after a lovely holiday in New Jersey, a wonderful woman introduced me to oatmeal. Not the flaky  kind that kids are forced to eat, no. Oat GROATS!

It's an excellent source of fibre, and combined with these yummy berries - you get so many vitamins (strawberries will give you Vitamin C and blueberries will provide you with antioxidants).

You can add many other fruits, as well as yogurt, crushed almonds, granola...etc.

If you wanna sweeten it up, add some honey, maple or agave syrup!

And remember guys, EAT ORGANIC!!!!
You benefit of many more nutrients that way, and prevent pesticides from killing our plants, animals, and even contaminate our drinking water!
Hi everyone!
This is exciting :)

A new blog for health and wellbeing, in order to stop spamming my friends on Facebook.

So if you want advice on what to eat, how to look your best and how to deal with a bunch of situations... this is the right place for you :)

I never thought I'd ever make this kind of blog... there are SO many of this kind out there, I'm not sure why I, out of all people, should be making one. Let's see how it goes!

This is me.

All flowery and stuff.

I have a darker side, it will appear :P

Oh, I should explain why this blog is titled "Like A Proton".  As indicated by the quote in the background, protons are positively charged elements in an atom. Just a tiny bit of science there cause one day I'll be an engineer ;)
